Bag phone to Smart Phone ( Conception, to Design, to Implemetation and on to Operation then Decommission. CDIOD.) - Assignment Example Consequently, the paper discusses the impact of various design, and the manufacturing techniques that can be used in the production of mobile phones. Conception. A cellular phone is a wireless device that people use to communicate. Its Technology is based on the technology of radio that was developed since 1940ââ¬â¢s. In 1843, Michael Faraday researched if electricity could be conducted via space. His study led to the development of cell phone. In 1865, Doctor Mahlon Loomis communicated first through the wireless atmosphere. He developed the idea of receiving and transmitting information via space as a conductor (Androulidakis, 2012 ). He was later awarded 50,000 for his study. The conception of cell phones is traced to the creation and innovation of police cars, taxi cabs, and other service motor cars whereby the radios enabled the police officers and taxi cabs to communicate with each other or a with the central station. Communication technology of cell phones can be traced to i ndividuals that had special radios patched on a phone line through a live operator when making a phone call. Police officers from Swedish used the first cell phone in 1946. The technology was linked to the network of a telephone and was unique of radio technology. The cell phone was less practical because it could make six phone calls before the battery of the car drained ( Bhowmik, 2008 ).. The modern mobile phone technology began when D.H. Ring created six sided cells for cell phones in 1947. Later on, an engineer for Bell Labs developed the idea of cell towers that would receive and transmit signals in 3 directions rather than two. However, despite the development of technologies, electronics and other technologies take years to mature. For example, the first cell phoneââ¬â¢s electronics were developed in 1960. In 1967, the technology of mobile phone was available. However, the users had to station themselves within a single cell area. These regions that base stations serviced did not hand off phone calls from one station to the other. Despite users making calls, they were not able to make calls after attaining a certain range ( Goggin, 2006). A call hands-off system was developed by Amos Joel from Bell Labs in 1970. The technology enhanced un-dropped phone calls from one region to another. Even after developing the technology, in 1971 AT&T submitted a proposal to FCC for services of cellular. Approval took 10 years. In 1982, frequencies of 824-894 MHZ Band were allocated to Advanced Mobile Phone Service AMPS . In 1990, AMPS shifted from analog to digital service. Throughout the years, many technologies that led to the development of mobile phones existed. Mostly, the phones were available on vehicles because of large battery requirements. For example, the Mobile Telephone System that was developed by Erikson in 1950 was available in Sweden. Unluckily, it weighed over twenty pounds, which is ineffective when compared to todayââ¬â¢s portable devices. 1 st Generation Cell Phones. The first portable cellular phone was unveiled by Motorola in 1983. The cellular phone was called Motorola Dynastic 8000X. The model was approved by FCC in the US. Motorola developed cellular phone technology for years and this model to over 15 years to enter the market costing over $100M. The

Health and Hygiene Essay Example for Free
Health and Hygiene Essay The word technology refers to the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, including machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. Technologies significantly affect human as well as other animal species ability to control and adapt to their natural environments. The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: examples include construction technology, medical technology, and information technology. The prehistorical discovery of the ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans in travelling in and controlling their environment. Recent technological developments, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale. In many societies, technology has helped develop more advanced economies (including todays global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Planet Earth and its environment. The distinction between science, engineering and technology is not always clear. Science is the reasoned investigation or study of phenomena, aimed at discovering enduring principles among elements of the phenomenal world by employing formal techniques such as the scientific method. Technologies are not usually exclusively products of science, because they have to satisfy requirements such as utility, usability and safety. The 20th century brought a host of innovations. In physics, the discovery of nuclear fission has led to both nuclear weapons and nuclear power. Through our modern day miracles of science we are able to appreciate that which is truly an incredible era of advanced erudition and self-sufficiency. Because of the advantages of modern day technology, we are allowed the unique benefit of looking back on what was and comparing it with what is and what could be. Technology is no longer seen as a barrier, but as a breakthrough. Bringing fresh insight and offering better jobs to those who are willing to take a step towards the future. .

Vik Muniz Photographs :: Essays Papers
Vik Muniz Photographs I observed a very unique series of photographs by Vik Muniz called Seeing is Believing. Vik Munizââ¬â¢s images are not simply photography but are pictures of complicated pieces of art he has produced at earlier times. Utilizing an array of unorthodox materials including granulated sugar, chocolate syrup, sewing thread, cotton, wire, and soil Muniz first creates an image, sculpturally manipulates it and then photographs it. Munizââ¬â¢s pictures include portraits, landscapes, x-rays, and historical images. One work that particularly caught my attention was a photograph called ââ¬Å"Big James Sweats Bulletsâ⬠from the series Sugar Children. The content or subject matter of the artwork is representational. The photograph depicts the hardworking children of sugar cane plantations in South America. This particularly photo is a portrait of a dark skinned boy, slightly overweight, standing and grinning. The photo is of neatly arranged granulated sugar across a piece of black paper which produces the image of the boy. Many different sensory properties compose the artwork. There is a soft light that seems very natural coming off the boyââ¬â¢s face. The light shines at the boyââ¬â¢s face at an elevated level, as if he were outside on a hot afternoon with the sun overhead. There is a wide range of tones from very bright, in the reflection off the boys cheeks to very dark in the skin of the boys face. Muniz does an excellent job using shadows to provide a feeling of depth and adding curves to the boys body and face. The shape of the boy is positive, but the background is not defined, allowing a negative shape or void in the picture. Although there is no actually texture on the photograph the texture from the original work of art is apparent. The use of sugar gives off a hazy effect preventing the photo from having a clear focus. The portrait of the boy has a frontal vantage point with his body centered and balanced on at all angles. This shows the expression on the boys face and the size of the boys body, which is important to the title of the work. When looking at the photograph the eyes are immediately drawn to the boys face and grin.

Female Genital Mutilation Essay
Female genital mutilation includes ââ¬Å"all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasonsâ⬠(WHO). The World Health Organization states that 140,000,000 girls and women worldwide are currently living with the consequences of female genital mutilation. The procedure can be carried out on babies as young as two weeks old and on woman in their twenties. The age at which girls are cut can vary widely from country to country, and even within countries. Most often, female genital mutilation happens before girls reach puberty (Womenââ¬â¢s Health). In Africa, there is an estimated 101,000,000 girls 10 years old and above that have undergone female genital mutilation. The procedure is generally performed without anesthesia by an older woman who acts as the local midwife and it is often conducted in the girlââ¬â¢s home. However, there are a few villages that have all the girls lay next to each other and the circumciser cuts all of them in a row. The World Health Organization recognizes four types of female genital mutilation. Type 1 and Type 2 are closely related. Type I is the removal of the clitoral hood, which is rarely, if ever, performed alone. Type 2 is called a clitoridectomy. This procedure is the partial or total removal of the clitoris and inner labia, with or without the removal of the outer labia. In a 1998 report from the World Health Organization, they wrote ââ¬Å"the clitoris is held between the thumb and index finger, pulled out and amputated with one stroke of a sharp objectâ⬠. The sharp object can be a knife, pair of scissors, cut glass, sharpened rocks or fingernails. Medical personnel are usually not involved. However, in Egypt, Sudan and Kenya, these procedures are carried out by health professionals (Pruthi). Type 3à is called infibulation. This is the process of removing all external genitalia and the fusing of the wound, leaving a small hole for passage of urine and menstrual blood. A pinhole is created by inserting something (usually a twig or rock salt) into the wound before it closes. The wound may be sewed with surgical thread, and in some cases agave or acacia thorns are used to hold the sides together. Then, the girlââ¬â¢s legs are tied together from hips down to her ankles and left to heal for 2-6 weeks. The infibulated womanââ¬â¢s vulva is opened for sexual intercourse by her husbandââ¬â¢s penis or a knife. This creates a tear which they gradually rip more and more until the opening is sufficient enough to admit the penis. In some women, ââ¬Å"the scar tissue is so hardened and overgrown with keloidal formations that it can only be cut with very sharp surgical scissorsâ⬠(Lightfoot-Klein). If the woman gets pregnant, they will cut her open with a knife in time to give birth. After they give birth, many women ask to have the infibulation restored. Skoll World Forum Type IV is unclassified and it includes ââ¬Å"pricking, piercing or incising of the clitoris and/or labia; stretching of the clitoris and/or labia; cauterization of the clitoris and surrounding tissue; scraping of tissue surrounding the vaginal opening or cutting of the vagina; introduction of corrosive substances or herbs into the vagina to cause bleeding or for the purposes of tightening or narrowing it; and any other procedure that falls under the definition of female genital mutilation aboveâ⬠(Reyners). The origins of the practice are relatively unknown. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s no way of knowing the origins of FGM (female genital mutilation), it appears in many different cultures, from Australian aboriginal tribes to different African societies,â⬠states medical historian David Gollaher, president and CEO of the California Healthcare Institute. There is a reference to it on the sarcophagus of Sit-hedjhotep, dating back to the Egyptââ¬â¢s Middle Kingdom. The inscription says ââ¬Å"But if a man wants to know how to live, he should recite (a magical spell) every day, after his flesh has been rubbed with the b3d (an unknown substance) of an uncircumcised girl and the flakes of skin of anà uncircumcised bald manâ⬠(Knight, pp317). The English explorer William Browne reported in 1799 that infibulation was carried out on the slaves, coming from Egypt, to prevent pregnancy. Traders simply paid a higher price for women who were infibulated. Slave patterns across Africa account for the patterns of female genital mutilation found there. Egypt and Africa are not the only continents that have a history of female genital mutilation. Gynecologists in 19th century Europe and the United States would remove the clitoris for various reasons, including treating masturbation, because they believed that masturbation caused physical and mental disorders (Rodriguez, p323) Isacc Baker Brown was an English gynecologist who believed that the ââ¬Å"unnatural irritation of the clitoris caused epilepsy, hysteria and maniaâ⬠. A paper that was written in 1985 and published in the Obstetrical and Gynecological Survey says that ââ¬Å"the last clitoridectomy was performed in the United States in the 1960s to treat hysteria, erotomania and lesbianismâ⬠(Cutner, p135) The practice of female genital mutilation is most common in the western, eastern, and north-eastern region of Africa, in some countries in Asia and the Middle East (WHO). There are currently 27 countries in sub-Saharan and Northeast Africa, and immigrant communities, which still perform female genital mutilation. Countries such as Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan are predominantly Type 3. The list of health complications that arise from female genital mutilation is very extensive. There are no health benefits and it rooted in gender inequality, ideas about purity, and is an attempt to control a womanââ¬â¢s sexuality. Immediate complications can include sever pain, shock, bleeding, tetanus or sepsis, urine retention, open sores in the genital region and injury to nearby genital tissue. African Women.Org state that the long term consequences from the procedure are: Repeated urinary infection because of the narrowing of the urinary outlet which prevents the complete emptying of urine from the bladder. Extremely painful menstruation due to the buildup of urine and blood in the uterus leading to inflammation of the bladder and internal sexual organs. Formation of scars and keloid on the vulva wound. The growth of dermoid cysts which may result in abscesses. Formation of fistula ââ¬â the rupture of the vagina and/or uterus. Vulval abscesses. Severe pain during intercourse which may consist of physical discomfort andà psychological traumatization. Difficult child birth which in case of long and obstructed labour may lead to foetal death and brain damage of the infant. In the case of infibulation acute and chronic pelvic infection leading to infertility and/or tubal pregnancy. Accumulation of blood and blood clots in the uterus and/or vagina. Physical short term and long term complications are not the only result from female genital mutilation. Mental anguish can result from this brutal procedure. When Waris Dirie was about five years old, she was left in a makeshift shelter under a tree for several days to recover from her ââ¬Å"operationâ⬠. She was told that God wanted her to do this and she wondered why God hated her so much. When she was thirteen, her father wanted her to marry a man in his 60s. Waris ran across the dessert to Mogadishu where she lived with relatives until she made it London and lived with her aunt. Whilst in London, a photographer spotted her and she became a supermodel, appearing in Chanel campaigns and was in the James Bond film The Living Daylights (Saner). Warisââ¬â¢s popularity and status helped to give her a voice and she went public in 1997 in a magazine interview, to tell the world about what happened to her and her aspiration to stop female genital mutilation. Waris means Desert Flower, a flower that can endure even the roughest of climates. She started a foundation named Desert Flower that seeks to end the crime of female genital mutilation by raising public awareness, creating networks, organizing events and educational programs. Her foundation Desert Flower also supports victims of female genital mutilation. Last month, in Berlin, she opened the first of what will be several medical centers to offer help to women who have suffered from female genital mutilation. Waris Dirie isnââ¬â¢t the only one that is opposed to female genital mutilation. Others, such as the World Health Organization, have been working to educate woman on their rights to their own bodies. Many laws have been enacted to protect these women, but few abide by these laws. Eighteen countriesââ¬âBenin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Cà ´te dââ¬â¢Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Togoââ¬âhave enacted laws criminalizing female genital mutilation. The penalties range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of life in prison. Several countries also impose monetary fines. The Prohibition of Female Circumcision Act of 1985 made female genital mutilation unlawful inà England and in Wales. However, there is evidence that people used a loophole to take young girls abroad temporarily to carry out the procedure. In the United States, Cornell University Law School teaches that ââ¬Å"Except as provided in subsection, whoever knowingly circumcises, excises, or infibulates the whole or any part of the labia majora or labia minora or clitoris of another person who has not attained the age of 18 years shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or bothâ⬠. There are those out there that are for female genital mutilation. Many people from communities that practice it say that it is rooted in local culture and that the tradition has been passed from one generation to another. Culture and the preservation of cultural identity serve as the underlying impetus for continuing the practice. Many women will be social pariahs if they donââ¬â¢t go through the ritual. They cannot attend any public outing or funeral. If they children, they too will be outcast. Some of those who support female genital mutilation also justify it on grounds of hygiene and aesthetics, with notions that female genitalia are dirty and that a girl who has not undergone the procedure is unclean. The women that oppose the end of female genital mutilation compare it breast enlargements or rhinoplasty. They ask ââ¬Å"why is okay for these women to change and shape their bodies to look the way that they want them to?â⬠The answer, simply, is that these procedures are a womenââ¬â¢s choice. They are eighteen years old and chose to have these procedures done to them. Female genital mutilation is child abuse and a violation of the basic human rights of women. The more we know about this procedure, the more we can do to put an end to it. References ââ¬Å"Consequences of FGM.â⬠African Women Organisation. N.p., 2009. Web. 21 Oct. 2013. . Purpose of Report In 2011 an article in the Guardian Business Newspaper stated ââ¬Å"The Equality and Human Rights Commi ssion claims that there are 5,400 women ââ¬Å"missingâ⬠from top jobs in the UK and the narrowing of the gender gap across business, politics and the media is ââ¬Å"tortuously slowâ⬠. This report will review the current and historical research as to why women are not more prominent in leadership roles. Introduction Why is it important for women to be in leadership positions? Historically leadership positions have been male dominated. This is no surprise given that it was not until the Equal Franchise Act of 1928 that women over 21 were able to vote and finally achieve the same voting rights as men. The Equalities Act 2010 has created a unified public sector duty, which is intended to promote equality in public policy and decision-making. The Glass Ceiling ââ¬Å"The glass ceilingâ⬠refers to a women's lack of advancement into leadership positions despite no visible barriers ââ¬Å"You tend not to use your womanhood. The research revealed that the position of women in high profile positions had changed little since a previous report in 2008 and that in 100 FTSE companies it would take some seventy years for women directors to equal men. This was also mirrored in relation to women MPââ¬â¢s in parliament. Constitutional and Social Changes that helped bring along a revolution
Constitutional and Social Changes that helped bring along a revolution Changers to the Constitution and social developments helped to bring along a revolution. When the United States passed the 13th amendment, the slave states erupted in anger because they had pretty much been bankrupted by the government. That was a Constitutional change that helped to bring along revolution. When Congress passed the 14th and 15th amendments the ex-slave states also got angry because it put blacks at the same social level as the whites. Those were just a few examples of some social and Constitutional developments that led to a revolution. In the Causes of Secession 1860 it says that in the Constitution Ãâcertain duties were imposed upon the several states, and the exercise of certain of their powers was restrained, which imperiled their continued existence as sovereign states.Ãâ This meant that in the Constitution there were several amendments which imposed upon several states rights. One such amendment was the 13th amendment which outlawed slavery in all states.A cartoon threatening that the KKK would lynch car...

Concepts of Decision of making
Concepts of Decision of making Introduction Decision making is act of making a choice between alternatives. On the other hand uncertainty is the absence of all or some information about the future. According to Longford, S. (2008) intelligence is not only the information that has been selected and collected, but also analyzed and evaluated and distributed to meet the unique policy making needs of an enterprise.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Concepts of Decision of making specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Decision Making Intelligence can be a possible way of reduction of the uncertainties that may exist in making decisions. This is made possible through the intelligence cycle. Intelligence cycle commence with direction, collection, collation, evaluation, analysis in respectively. First intelligence enables the decision maker to deviate from the norms. By so doing the decision maker reduces uncertainty because new and better actions will be taken t o reduce the risk in decision making. Indicators is a prerequisite in this case because there must be some set of limit. Secondly, for one to possess intelligence, he/she must have undergone training. Training is a means through which one acquires the essential skills, models, tools and techniques for processing information. Employment of this tools and skills enables one make appropriate decisions hence reducing the uncertainties. Another process in the intelligent cycle is direction. Direction is the definition of the problem which the decision makers want to make. When a vague and uniformed direction is undertaken improper decisions will be made and uncertainties increased. Skills posed by intelligent decision makers help them give specific and informed direction leading to reduction of uncertainty. After defining the problem, pertinent information must be gathered to aid in decision making. Intelligence ensures planning and lateral thinking i.e. considering all possibilities. Wh en all possible results are incorporated in decision making, the uncertainty level gets filled. Planning as well makes sure that proper sorting is done thereby availing the appropriate data. All this is only possible when there is intelligence. Moreover, the intelligence stage of evaluation is instrumental in the minimization of uncertainty. Evaluation can be described as the determination of the quality and than truthfulness of information. Awareness will then be created and tactics designed to help mitigate the menace of misleading information. When this is reduced, the decisions undertaken will be viable and this reduces uncertainty levels.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! It entails the situation where perception outweigh need and the mindset that limits the scope of wider thinking. I ntelligence reduces this problem by encouraging products delineated assumption and specific uncertainty and sources. It also ensures periodic reexamination, emphasis on procedure and realism. This will add value to the decisions made and thus declining the uncertainty levels Conclusion Finally, effective dissemination of information also reduces uncertainty. If information is properly disseminated, the loophole of conflicting sources that may further increase uncertainties is eradicated. In this way intelligence reduce uncertainty, It can thus be concluded that intelligence reduce uncertainty and therefore should be upheld when making. Reference list Longford, S. (2008). The Parthians as Intermediaries in the Silk Trade
The Parthians as Intermediaries in the Silk Trade The ancient Chinese invented sericulture- the production of silk fabric. They opened the silkworm cocoon to extract silk filaments, twisted the threads, and dyed the fabric they produced. Silk fabric has long been prized, and correspondingly expensive, so it was a valuable source of revenue for the Chinese, so long as they could monopolize production. Other luxury-loving people were eager to prise their secret, but the Chinese guarded it carefully, under pain of execution. Until they learned the secret, the Romans found another way to share in the profit. They manufactured silken products. The Parthians found a way to profit, too by serving as middlemen. The Chinese Monopoly on Silk Production In The Silk Trade between China and the Roman Empire at Its Height, Circa A. D. 90-130, J. Thorley argues that the Parthians (c. 200 B.C. - c. A.D. 200), serving as trading intermediaries between China and the Roman Empire, sold fancy Chinese brocades to Rome and then, using some deceit about silkworm cocoons in the Roman Empire, sold re-weavings of gauzy silk back to the Chinese. The Chinese, admittedly, lacked the technology for the weaving, but they might have been scandalized to realize they had provided the raw material. The Silk Road Prospered Although Julius Caesar may have had silk curtains made from Chinese silk, silk was in very limited supply in Rome until the time of peace and prosperity under Augustus. From the late first century to early in the second, the whole of the silk route was at peace and trade prospered as it never had before and never would again until the Mongol Empire. In Roman Imperial history, the barbarians kept pushing at the borders and clamoring to be let in. These would-be Romans had been displaced by other tribes further out. This is part of a complicated stream of events that led to the invasions of the Roman Empire by Vandals and Visigoths, nicely treated in Michael Kulikowskis The Gothic Wars. The Barbarians at the Gates Thorley says that a stream of similar border-pushing events led to the efficiently functioning silk route of the period. Nomadic tribes called the Hsiung Nu harassed the Chin dynasty (255-206 B.C.) into building the Great Wall for protection (like Hadrians Wall and the Antonine Wall in Britain were supposed to keep out the Picts). Emperor Wu Ti forced out the Hsiung Nu, so they tried to get into Turkestan. The Chinese sent forces to Turkestan and took possession of it. Once in control of Turkestan, they built trade route outposts from North China to the Tarim Basin in Chinese hands. Thwarted, the Hsiung Nu turned to their neighbors to the south and west, the Yueh-chi, driving them to the Aral Sea, where they, in turn, drove out the Scythians. The Scythians migrated to Iran and India. The Yueh-chi later followed, arriving in Sogdiana and Bactria. In the first century A.D., they migrated into Kashmir where their dynasty became known as the Kushan. Iran, to the west of the Kushan empire , came into Parthian hands after the Parthians wrested control from the Seleucids who ran the area after the death of Alexander the Great. This meant that going from west to east in about A.D. 90, the kingdoms controlling the silk route were only 4: the Romans, the Parthians, the Kushan, and the Chinese. The Parthians Become the Middlemen The Parthians persuaded the Chinese, who traveled from China, through the Kushan area of India (where they presumably paid a fee to allow them to travel through), and into Parthia, not to take their merchandise further west, making the Parthians middlemen. Thorley provides an unusual-looking list of exports from the Roman Empire that they sold to the Chinese. This is the list that contains the locally acquired silk: [G]old, silver [probably from Spain], and rare precious stones, especially the jewel that shines at night, the moonshine pearl, the chicken- frightening rhinoceros stone, corals, amber, glass, lang-kan (a kind of coral), chu-tan (cinnabar?), green jadestone, gold-embroidered rugs, and thin silk- cloth of various colours. They make gold-coloured cloth and asbestos cloth. They further have fine cloth, also called down of the water- sheep; it is made from the cocoons of wild silk-worms. They collect all kinds of fragrant substances, the juice of which they boil into storas. It wasnt until the Byzantine era that Romans really had their own silkworms. Revenue Math Problem Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Revenue - Math Problem Example Even though the property has never been renovated none of the hotels in its rating category has any advantages over it and changing the decor on a regular basis can be a means of making the place continually attractive to its clients. The hotel is close to public transportation which means that its guests do not have to go very far or get lost in order to obtain transportation. Additionally, there is direct access from the street to its food and beverage facility which means that this aspect of the business will be more successful than its competitors. It is expected that the food and beverage aspect of the business will provide similar level of revenue or probably more based on recent restaurant closures and the location of the facility. The hotel expects to have an above-fair market room share which means that its occupancy levels will be above the market average. Revenue generation This property has a number of avenues at its disposal to generate revenue. They include rooms, food and beverage, parking, laundry, telephone, entertainment and room service. This information is highlighted in the appendix. With an occupancy level of 60% and an ADR of $152 the property would be able to generate revenues from rooms of $705,580. This calculation takes into account rooms sold on week days (W/D) and weekends (W/E). Information gathered indicates that during quarter 1 of the previous years more leisure was demanded on weekends than on week days and so the rates were set higher on weekends than on week days. In the case of business the rates were higher on weekdays since this is usually the time when certain types of business like banks and service operations carry out their major activities. Corporate rates were also higher on weekdays than on weekends and so the information on occupancy and market mix was useful in this regard. The projections takes into account the maximize occupancy strategy. The use of this strategy will draw guests from other properties to this on e. Additionally, guests will get value for money and will return based on the distinctive characteristics of the property that sets it apart from the competition. The food and beverage facilities on the property should benefit tremendously from its proximity to public transportation and its access from the street. It has adequate space for the advertisement of the facilities. A guest survey that was done last year indicated that advertising was of great importance to all types of customers except tour groups. This would definitely help to boost not only the room revenue but food and beverage as well. Some restaurants recently closed their doors and this property stands to benefit from the lower number of restaurants in the area and the fact that none is scheduled to be built in the short term. Additionally, a number of corporate offices are opening in the area and this property stands tall with its distinct facilities which set it apart from its competitors. The property is expected to see approximately 700 additional persons for breakfast each day and this is considered very conservative, approximately 8,000 for lunch and 6,000 for dinner. This projection is based on the foregoing information as well as information obtained from the food and beverage performance and price points. Dinner followed by lunch is expected to be the main revenue generator. In terms of beverage from the bar there should be quite a bit of persons
James Joyce's The Dead Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
James Joyce's The Dead - Essay Example n in the following lines: ââ¬Å"A light fringe of snow lay like a cape on the shoulders of his overcoat and like toecaps on the toes of his goloshes; and, as the buttons of his overcoat slipped with a squeaking noise through the snow- stiffened frieze, a cold fragrant air from out-of-doors escaped from crevices and foldsâ⬠. There are other common allusions to the near freezing Dublin weather in which the story is set. The instance when Gretta Conroy, Gabrielââ¬â¢s wife caught cold infection is again a literal citing of the word ââ¬Å"coldâ⬠. The sole occasion when ââ¬Å"coldâ⬠was used in the metaphorical sense is when Gabriel replies unenthusiastically to Gretta that ââ¬Å"You can go if you like, said Gabriel coldlyâ⬠. Talking of the dark aspects of the story, in the context of Gabrielââ¬â¢s address to the gathering, he mentions how ââ¬Å"our path through life is strewn with many sad memoriesâ⬠and continues in a morbid tone, how ââ¬Å"were we to brood upon them always we could not find the heart to go on bravely with our work among the living" and further in the narrative he says ââ¬Å"His soul had approached that region where dwelt the vast hosts of the deadâ⬠. This poignant remembrance of his own past had shaken up his composure. Gabriel had now been overwhelmed by a sense of losing his love and the pain associated with it. Joyce depicts the state he is in with the following dark imagery: ââ¬Å"into a grey impalpable world", "all the living and the dead". As for the ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠in The Dead, there are again two interpretations ââ¬â one is light as in humor and frivolity the other is insight or revelation. There are plenty of instances of both cases. Phrases such as ââ¬Å"laughing very heartilyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"There was a great deal of confusion and laughter and noiseâ⬠, ââ¬Å"The table burst into applause and laughter at this sallyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"She laughed herself this time good-humouredlyâ⬠, etc represent the light-hearted elements in the narrative. Light as brightness can be seen in

2 journal articles - Essay Example ining violence instill violent behavior among its viewers, whereas Selection Hypothesis states that people with violent or aggressive behavior select violent multimedia. In the longitudinal studies, there is no violence scale or index to show the frequency of violent game play. Additionally, the longitudinal studies did not measure directly the total screen time between the frequency of non-violent video game play and aggression. Further, variables such as difficulty with parents and depression were not considered properly in the longitudinal studies. The purpose of the study described in the article was to determine the relationship between violent video game play and violent behavior over a long period. Adolescents were questioned regarding their aggression and game play behaviors throughout their high school years. The study also tested the Selection and Socialization Hypotheses. Compared to the previous longitudinal studies, this study defined violent game play and the inclusion of third covariate variables. The measures used in this article were direct aggression, violent video game play, non-violent video game play, overall video game play, and a third relevant variable. All information was obtained from the students. All measures, except the third variable, were used to assess students from grade 9 to grade 12. In the correlational table, the lowest value was .21 and the highest value was .34. In the report, while controlling for the third variable, the authors reported that playing violent video games was a significant pr edictor of the high levels of aggression among students from grades 9 to 12. On the other hand, playing non-violent video games was not a significant predictor of low levels of aggressions for students in grades 11 and 12. Thus, supporting evidence was obtained for the Socialization Hypothesis and none for the Selection Hypothesis. In the discussion of the study, the authors found out that there was a definitive relation between long-term

E-Business Resit Coursework - Essay Example The adoption of eââ¬âbusiness is not restricted to any particular industry or particular company. From high tech aerospace industry to the farming industry, several companies of various sizes are conducting eââ¬âbusiness activities at present. The paper will analyze the impact of internet and other digital technology in the supply chain process of retail industry (Jorge, 2008). The company chosen for retail industry is Topshop, a retail apparel company of the UK. It is a brand of Arcadia Group, a retailing giant of the UK. Topshop had earned its uniqueness through its own marketing strategies, retailing methods and online businesses (Topshop, n.d.). Impact of Internet on Supply Chain Process The impact of internet and digital technology in the market and within the general business performances are significant. In retail industry of the UK, the direct business system through internet had been applied by many companies. With regard to Topshop, it allows customers to choose any product through website and sell products without heavily depending on thirdââ¬âparty distributors. The eââ¬â business of Topshop also assures convenience and cost cutback (Levi & Et. Al., 2004). A retail company such a Topshop is very successful in developing internet business model that let it to increase revenue radically and capture the market. According to Topshop, it sold almost 30 brace of knickers per minute, 500 brace of legging per hour and 6000 brace of jeans per day in the year 2006. The internet acts as a driver for business alteration (Rushton, 2007). The supply chain process is often viewed as a tactical asset as it has the strength to make a difference and develop sustainable advantage in the competitive economy. Presently, several new business enterprises had appeared to have complete advantage of the eââ¬âbusiness e.g. ââ¬Ëdrop shippingââ¬â¢ which had rapidly gained reputation among retailers. In this system, an eââ¬âtailor takes order for pr oduct and provides the producer or distributor opportunity to send the product to the purchaser. In this system, the eââ¬âtailor does not possess any stock. Through the alteration of conventional supply chain process, the ââ¬Ëdrop shippingââ¬â¢ system helps to transfer the inventory management related difficulties to the producers (Feng, 2008). Impact of Internet on Retail Sector The retail industry had reacted lately to the competition from eââ¬âbusiness environment and to identify the prospects offered by the internet. In recent times, the scene has changed, as many retail companies such as Topshop had introduced internet shopping to their offerings. Topshop knows the benefit they can have by entering into e-business. TopShop has its own virtual trade store and it services the products by its existing storehouse and supply chain network. High quantity products, whose demand is balanced with the supply on the basis of long-term estimation, are stocked in stores. In ca se of low quantity products, the storing is done centrally for the purpose of internet marketing. The products which are purchased online have high volatility of demand, thus the centralised stocking helps to

This is detrimental to the accounting procedures, since the pension accounted for in the balance sheet is the amount payable and paid every year. The Statement No. 60 changed reporting requirements for joint ventures and related organizations by requiring that both parties in the joint venture or other such arrangements should report their portion of revenues received, as opposed to an earlier practice where the revenue of such ventures were reported jointly under single financial statements (GASB, 2010). The statement also requires such ventures to disclose their arrangements, including the assets, rights, guarantees, liabilities and commitments. The statement sought to improve the accounting practices by improving disclosures, while at the same time creating similarity and comparability between the financial statements of the non-governmental and governmental entities (GASB, 2010). Essey - Essay Example The first and perhaps most attractive option that Grant could take would be to accept the positive of chief executive at the Japanese subsidiary. Mr. Hargreaves, the headhunter who had sounded out Grant for the position, was quick to present his offer when Manningham was taken over. Perhaps this is because he expected that Grant would lose his job, but that is not the case in this situation. The job is virtually his; all is has to do is hop on a plane to Tokyo and he would start work immediately. Grantââ¬â¢s wife Helen is of the view that he should not feel responsible for his employees. She also makes the point that he will only be used by Brett until all of CDIââ¬â¢s employees are in place; once this happens, Grant will get the boot. Helen is of the view that Grant should just view Manningham as one step in his career. If he stayed in his current position, then it could hurt the rest of his career, especially if he is fired a short time after the takeover. The second option that Grant could choose would be to stay in his current position at Manningham. This would be the safest option that Grant could take because he would have job security, or at least that is what was promised to him by Geoffrey Brett, the chairman of CDI. Since the takeover, Brett has shown nothing but respect to Grant, so there is no reason to suggest that his position would be under threat in the short term. From CDIââ¬â¢s point of view, Grant is the key to the takeover process going as planned because he has the loyalty of Manninghamââ¬â¢s employees already. Grant feels that he cannot leave his employees in the lurch because they have developed mutual trust over the years. Because CDIââ¬â¢s employees would be moving into the workplace as well, Grant needs to be there to reassure his employees that their jobs will be safe. If he was to leave when he was needed most, then it is likely that CDI would relieve many Manningham employees of their position and r eplace them with their own

Multiculturalism Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Multiculturalism - Research Proposal Example Different people have addressed this topic but I have seen it important to address the topic and try to come with a remedy to ensure that people can embrace each otherââ¬â¢s cultural diversity. This will also prevent cultural profiling which is common among different people in the society. On the bid to address the issue, many writers have tried to project ways in which people can take advantage of the situation without allowing the division to creep in. According to Clarence Page a contributor in the Chicago Tribune, the way the issue is being addressed in the United States has left more rifts rather than proposing a reconciling strategy. Mathew Lynch writing about multiculturalism in schools notes that it is important to teach students at an early age how to embrace each otherââ¬â¢s diversity instead of profiling each other negatively based on their different cultures. He also adds that blending of the different cultures can be both a blessing and a curse according to the way that the issue will be addressed. Bafford adds that there is no harmonized American culture and so the people living there should show high levels of cultural tolerance. Responding to the issue of multiculturalism is the main issue as Valerie, an editor with the Los Angeles Times puts it. Th e education system should therefore address it to ensure that people embrace each otherââ¬â¢s uniqueness and different cultural orientation. The research will cover the topic in a different way to address the limitations of the previous researches and come up with a working model for the same. The research should also come up with recommendations and the relationship between multiculturalism and other social aspects that are evident in any given society. The leading question will be on ways to address

Poem Comparison - Telephone Conversation Essay Example for Free
Poem Comparison Telephone Conversation Essay The context of this poem is of a black man from Africa trying to find accommodation, it is based on his experiences as a student in the 1960s. The poem is written from the perspective as a phone discussion between him and a landlady. The main problem in this poem is that there is a huge amount of racism show by the landlady to the African How dark? Are you light or very dark? This shows immediately that the landlady has something against coloured people and cant have a conversation without knowing the skin colour of the man. It also seems that the landlady would prefer the man not be coloured than to rather receive money for the accommodation. The impression we get from the landlady tells us that she is a very racist and ignorant woman. She first shows this after the man mentions hes an Africa, which she doesnt reply to Silence, silenced transmission of pressurised good breeding. The silence shows us her simple summary of her response of having to think twice about accommodating the black man. She shows that she has a sense of racism in her Considerate she was, varying the emphasis Are you dark? Or very light? This tells us that the landlady is trying to imagine all the colours he could be and shows she judges people totally on colour. We also see that she is wealthy and cares about her image a lot Lipstick coated, long gold rolled cigarette holder piped. From the view of the man he would think she is also a snob due to the way she is speaking to him and her questions. When the conversation starts it begins normally but is changed completely when the man says he is African Self confession I am African. This suggests that the mans skin colour is a sin which he is guilty of. He also feels that he needs to defend himself even before the woman has started to ask any questions. Then after the landlady asked him how dark he was he didnt know how to respond to her Button A, Button B, this shows us that the man is shocked and confused to answer the question just asked. After the man realises that the landlady has a sense of racism in her, he begins to become angry and compares it to the environment he is in Red booth, red pillar box, red double tiered. The red that he is describing represents his feelings which means he is angry and the environment seems repulsive to him. When the man says Like plain or milk chocolate he is talking about his skin colour and at the same time making a clever joke out of it. He is also mocking the landlady and showing her that he is not going to put up with the racist questions anymore. This shows that he is beginning to twist the conversation and is now the person who is asking the questions. He shows this when he says his colour is West African Sepia and then asking her if she knew his skin colour. But as West African Sepia isnt a colour it tells us that the man is using his knowledge to make a fool of her. This makes him feel better due to the fact that he is now criticising her. Also, he feels he wants to make her feel the same way he felt when he had to answer the racist questions. The attitude of the man changes at the end of the poem from being a polite and respectful to an angry and rude man. But he changes his attitude because of the landladys judgement of him and decided to show his angry and rage to show that he is not a weak person. The man is now making fun of her and is mocking her at more length when he speaks about his colour Dont you know what it is? Thats dark, isnt it? He then starts to be rude by offering to show his bottom under the pretence of suggesting she meets him before judging My bottom raven black, wouldnt you rather see for yourself. He does this to make her feel uncomfortable as he was before and tried to put her in a complicated position. The control of power in the beginning of this poem was in the hands of the landlady as she owns the house and is offering the accommodation to the man. As the poem continues her power begins to decrease as the man reverses the situation as he starts to mock her. By the end of the poem the man has gained all the power from the landlady and is so powerful the landlady talks but only when she is asked a question. I think the poet wrote this to show that people who seem to be weak like the African man could be clever enough to gain power. Also, people who are foreign to a country still believe they have rights to fight back to unpleasant comments. You Will Be Hearing From Us Shortly The context of this poem is based on an interview for a position at a company. The interview includes the interviewer and interviewees. The poem is written from the perspective of the interviewer asking questions to the candidates. The main problem in this situation is that there is a sense of prejudice shown by the interviewer to the candidates. Also, the candidates are not being treated fair to even be considered the position at the company. Another problem is that in the poem people are judged on looks and appearance instead of their knowledge and potential. The impression we get from the interviewer is that she wants the interviewee to know that she is in charge and is the only person asking the questions. This is shown in the first stanza when she immediately asks her questions, which shows she has a much more superior attitude than the interviewees You feel adequate to the demands of this position. This shows from the start-off that the interviewer is in control and doesnt show any manners to wait for a response but instead asks the next question. The character of the interviewer develops into being rude and also she doesnt pay attention to the interviewees emotions or feelings. She shows that she is rude when she questions their looks and abilities Find your appearance, disturbing? She also is more direct in asking questions and doesnt hesitate of their reaction this is show hen she questions their accent And your accent that is the way you have always spoken, is it? This gives us the impression that she is insulting the speech of the interviewee. The poet makes us think that the candidate is really weak and doesnt show any sign of defending herself. Also, whenever the interviewer finishes asking a question she also replies for the candidates So glad we agree, Quite so. This shows that they are so powerless they cant be able to answer for themselves. It also shows us that the interviewees seem that they dont care about receiving criticism and do not have the power to stand up and respond. The character of the candidate develops into being more weaker than she is already. She receives more and more criticism from the interviewer and never has the chance to respond due to the interviewers power What of your education? Where were you educated? This shows the interviewer is now not even giving the courtesy of a response and instead goes straight onto the next question, showing the interviewees lack of importance to her. The control of power in this poem was in the hands of the interviewer in the beginning. As the poem continues her power gets stronger and stronger and becomes so strong that at a point youd forget that the candidates are even present. By the end of the poem the interviewer still has all the power possible in the interview and uses it to great effect against the interviewees. I think the poets reasons for writing this poem is to show people that a person who is in a powerful enough position to make judgements of people can have even more power by showing it and using it to their advantage.

The Wife of Bath Essay example -- Canterbury Tales Essays
The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the fourteenth century, have been read with admiration in most periods between the fifteenth century and the present. In this poetic satire, Chaucer uses "a fictitious pilgrimage as a framing device for a number of stories" (Norton, 79). Chaucer himself becomes a character, and at the same time, the narrator in this masterpiece, and along with twenty-nine other people, he sets out on the quest to Canterbury. In "The General Prologue," Chaucer presents short descriptions of each of the pilgrims. Throughout the poem, Chaucer the narrator depicts the pilgrims one by one, without criticizing or telling the reader his own opinion about the characters: he leaves that up to the readers to perceive on their own. Pilgrimages were very common in fourteenth-century England, and they were well depicted in the Middle English literature. On the literal level, the pilgrimage was a journey to the shrine of a saint to pray and receive remission for the sins, and while on the pilgrimage, one would meet different people and listen to their interesting stories. On the allegorical level, the pilgrimage represents people's journey through life. In The Canterbury Tales, after setting themselves to leave from the courtyard of the Tabard Inn, the pilgrims agree to tell the stories: two on the way to Canterbury and two on the way back. Such a development of the plot gives Chaucer a chance to portray each of the pilgrims through his or her own lips. Chaucer's pilgrims represent all the social levels of the hierarchical order of medieval society. Most of the pilgrims are men. There are only a few women, and one of them is t... ...Tale" reflect to certain degree the started topic. It becomes obvious that the Wife of Bath's aim was not so much the truth, as it was her self-justification. Created by Chaucer in the end of the fourteenth century, the "lusty and domineering" character of the Wife of Bath seems to be more alive today as a prototype of a liberated woman than she was during the Chaucer's time. By creatign this character, Chaucer attacked the existing patriarchal hierarchical social order and raised the question of women's equality to man by placing the woman on the position historically given by society to men. Inspector Goole in J.B.Priestleyââ¬â¢s play, An Inspector Calls :: English Literature
What is the function of Inspector Goole in J.B.Priestleyââ¬â¢s play, An Inspector Calls? An Inspector Calls was written in 1945 by John Boynton Priestley. The play was set in 1912 two years before the first world war so from this their would have been irony as the audience would know. The play is set in a dining room in the Birlingââ¬â¢s residence in Brumley, North Midlands which was a fictional industrial city. At the time the play was set the world was a very class conscience place with higher and lower class depending on one thing: money. The country was set up in two categories with the socialists which consists of the Political System in which ways of community and sharing are promoted and capitalists which is the political system which values private ownership and the individual. The country really was involved around capitalist values. For example there was no welfare state. In this essay I will be focusing on the main functions of the inspector. The inspectors role is a key to the plot and conclusion and delivers morals and principles and how the functions of the inspector get used in specific places throughout the play. The play opens with the Birling family and Gerald celebrating the engagement of Gerald and Sheila. It is dramatically effective because you get to see all the characters in one room therefore seeing their personalities, instead of them being introduced one-by-one. They are celebrating and at ease which means they are a little bit drunk. The mood is very relaxed and everyone having a nice time. From the stage directions it says the mood is ââ¬Å"pink and intimateâ⬠. We learn from Mr.Birling that he is selfish and a capitalist from his speech. He sums himself up within the opening of the play saying ââ¬Å"that a man has to mind his own business and look after himself and his own-and-â⬠(act one page 11) this indicates that he is a selfish man and cares for his family only (Mr.Birling is a capitalist). The mood is soon to change from relaxed and chilled to harsh when the inspector arrives. At the last word of Mr. Birlings speech the door bell rings at the right time to create tension, the doorbell ring was purposely put their to create tension and to stop Birling preaching about capitalist views. Its clever even how one word ââ¬Å"andâ⬠can be such a tensional word as the door bell rings. In the stage directions ââ¬Å"the lighting should be pink and intimate until the inspector arrives, and then it should be brighter and harderâ⬠it changes to as if all the characters were being

Gwendolen and Cecily in the Importance of Being Earnest Essay
The Victorian age is considered to be one of the most prudent ages throughout of history. It is mainly based on your appearance. This means that the most important thing back then was to present as much as perfect as you can. It is crucial for them to be very appreciated by other people. This age can be described as very hypocrite because no one is perfect so lying and pretending in order to present as a ââ¬Å"saintâ⬠is absurd but in that age it meant everything. This essay will discuss the role of women in that age compared with this age. It will also show the vanity and insecurity of women and try to explain if that really remained even for today. Miss Gwendolen Fairfax is a member of upper class society and a perfect example of a beautiful, rich lady who is most likely bored by her life but she will try to make her best to look good in front of everyone. She needs to stay in fashion ââ¬Å"Sugar? No, thank you. Sugar is not fashionable any more. â⬠She is in love with Jack but in the beginning she is mostly concerned around his name because the name Earnest itself shows great honesty and decency. When she finds out that he is really named Jack she has some doubts around him which is absurd because name has nothing to do with the person itself and the love you show to each other. Yet, it is another meaningless but in the Victorian age very important fact. Cecily Cardew, also a beautiful, young lady who is a guardian of Jack is a contrast to Gwendolen. She lives at the country and she is not that obsessed with appearance. She has good manners but when compared to Gwendolen the conclusion can be that she has a bit of the wild side. She was very cheeky toward Gwendolen but it was all played in a polite way. Cecily thinks that she is in love with Jackââ¬â¢s brother, so called Earnest because she heard lots of stories about him which gave her an opinion that he is a very passionate and ââ¬Å"wickedâ⬠person. This wickedness is what really attracts her which actually makes a distinction between her and Gwendolen ââ¬â she is not that obsessed with finding a virtuous husband. She thinks that Earnestââ¬â¢s recklessness is very attractive and high spirited. The most important thing above all is the name Earnest which is also in her case essential for starting a marriage. This is the main link between her and Gwendolen. There is song called Itââ¬â¢s a manââ¬â¢s world, and it was written and composed in 1966. It has been a long time since the Victorian era and it has also been a long time since this song was composed. The point is, although lots of things changed during the history one remained even for today ââ¬â women are still not equal with men but men will always desire women. Men truly rule the world but only woman can give birth of even a better man. Maybe the men were afraid of the women so they were condemned on having a boring life (the lucky ones; the aristocrats). Things started to change just after the Hastings in 1870s and petition for womenââ¬â¢s right to vote. Maybe it was not such a critical age for women when it is previewed from a different angle. Indeed, they had no rights, honesty and appearance, which was already mentioned as a crucial thing in the Victorian age, were important but they had also no high expectations of them. Women were treated as ladies. This term ââ¬Å"ladyâ⬠is much different than today. First, it has a title and aristocrat meaning but it also has a different meaning and it is ââ¬â women are fragile creatures which should be supplied with all goods and they deserve a decent provider (husband) who will take care of them. Their only job is to be pure, always by their husbandââ¬â¢s side and to take care of their children. Women today are expected to be pure but also to provide money, take care of the children and there is that constant pressure of competing with men and trying to find their place in a ââ¬Å"manââ¬â¢s worldâ⬠. How absurd to talk of the equality of the sexes! Where questions of self-sacrifice are concerned, men are infinitely beyond us. â⬠The tensions between Cecily and Gwendolen are typical. Whenever woman feels threatened by another womanââ¬â¢s presence and beauty she attacks. The argument between the two of them is displayed on a polite way because they are after all ladies and ladies do not start a fight like men do. It would maybe be settled in a different way today because fashion in sugar, bread and butter seems trivial now but the concept is same. Women are either very friendly or they call each other every name in the book. ââ¬Å"(â⬠¦ ) they will be calling each other sister. Women only do that when they have called each other a lot of other things first. â⬠The conclusion of this essay is that women were not satisfied when they had no rights back then and they are also not satisfied in this age. It will never change. Also, it is in womanââ¬â¢s nature to judge other women just so she could feel safe. This remained until today.

Oral Commentary Essay
ââ¬Å"hello, this is jakob gonzalez. Today i will comment on Two Minue Drill by Mike Lupica. my focua will be to analyze the way the universal theme of dreaming represents Mike Lupicaââ¬â¢s view of life as nobody is perfect. The view of life is established by Mike Lupicaââ¬â¢s effective use of conflict resoltion, and character development. Pior to my analysis i will provide you an overview of my text. I will now summarize the main literary features of the novel Two Minute Drill. The setting of Two Minute Drill is around fall and one of the main settings would be perryââ¬â¢s field because thatââ¬â¢s where scott hangs out with chris and thatââ¬â¢s where he really gets him emotions out and doesnââ¬â¢t really focuson anything and th have a great tme with his dog Casey and Chris. The protagonist of Two Minute Drill is scott perry. Scott perry may be charcterized by the following two traits, shy and self conscious. the antagonist Jimmy Dolan may be characterized by the following two traits, selfish and greedy. The major internal conflict is Scott wants to get better at football and Chris wants toget better at math, and language arts. so they agree on a deal to help each other. The major external conflict is chris gets hurt in the championship game and scott has to get the final points to win. The main events of this novel are in the beginning Scott was the new kid and kept on getting bullied by Jimmy and after chris came in and told Jimmy to stop. A couple of weeks later chris saw how good scott was a kicker and wanted to tell everyone but scott was trying hold him back. Also chris finally told scott about how he cant read and totally freaked scott out about it. Finally the last major event would be when scott had to kick a field goal to win he game for the championship on the line and it was actually his first time on the field playing. the climax of Two Minute Drill is when chris finally told scott that he couldnââ¬â¢t read. The novel concludes with the following major event when they are at the championship game. The internal conflict is resolved when Scott got to get on the field and win the game for his team and chris passed his test and was able to play football. The external conflict is resolved when Scott got his chance to finally et on the field and prove to everyone that they were wrong about him not being a good football player. The resolution of these conflicts and the development of the protagonist over time establish the theme of never giving up. I will now comment on how Mike Lupica utilizes conflict, and resolution to establish a controlling impression and theme. Understanding the authorââ¬â¢s craft in creating resolution to major conflicts in a novel crystallize the readerââ¬â¢s inference of theme. In Two Minute Drill there exist the following theme. The internal conflict is scott wants to get better at football and chris wants to get better at math an language arts so they agree to a deal to help each other out is illustrated in the following quote from the novel, ââ¬Å"The deal is, you make me better at football, and iââ¬â¢ll make you better at school.â⬠(78) This conflict occurs further in the novel, ââ¬Å"Chris stared at the grade on the front, not changig expression until Mr.Dykes was past him. then chris looked back at scott and pointed at him. chris finally seen his grade, B.â⬠(98). This internal conflict conflict is resolved when scoot helped out chris with his school work and passed Mr.Dykes test so he could play the championship game and chris helped scott with football and making tougher and he got his chance to kick the ball in the championship game. The following quote provides evidence of the authors resolution,â⬠chris smiled with a cocy quaterback smiled, i told iââ¬â¢d get you better at footballâ⬠.(180) and scott said ââ¬Å"i told you iââ¬â¢d get you better at schoolâ⬠.(180) Mike Lupica crafted a resolution in which the protagonist scott learns that as long as youstick to something and get better at it something good will happen later.such a resolution allows the reader to understand the authors view of never giving up because scott knew that even though he didnt like playing football that the year with jimmy that he knew if he could get through the year maybe the coach will put him in the game to kick. The external conflict is chris getting hurtin the championship game, and scott having to get to the final points to win the game is illustrated in the following quote from the novel, ââ¬Å"Mr.Dolan took off his cap despite the soaking rain, and rubbed his forehead.scott thought the coach looked lost for a moment. then suddenly coach called me out on to the field.(170)â⬠. this conflict occurs further in the novel,â⬠scott planted his left foot, not slipping even a little bit, dropped the ball perfectly in the spot he cleared.brought his right leg through. it cleared the cross bar with a couple of feet to spare(177)â⬠. The external conflict is resloved when scott kicked the ball through the croosbar to win the game for his teammates. The following quote provides evidence of the authors resolution ââ¬Å"iââ¬â¢m going to say this for the last, time, and i promised i wont say it again. i couldnââ¬â¢t do it without you(180)â⬠. Mike Lupica crafted a resolution in whichthe protagonist scott learns that hint at character development and a furthering of the plot. such as a resolution allows the reader to understand the authorââ¬â¢s view of never giving up because people will always make you doubt yourself and tell you what you want to achieve is impossible but doesnââ¬â¢t matter what other people think, its about how you can prove them wrong and tell them not everything is possible. Mike Lupicaââ¬â¢s resolution to the stated conflict is but one aspect of understanding theme. a reader must recongnize and interpret character development over time to dive deeper into the authorââ¬â¢s purpose in communication a view of life. The theme of never giving up is in part established by the characters actions, thoughts, and words and in their reactions to their repective conflicts. An analysis of the characters behavior allows the changes in the protagonistââ¬â¢s character hint to the authorââ¬â¢s statement on life. the protagonist is best characterized by the following traits sy and self consious. For example , the trait of shy is evidence when â⬠so he tried to not act like he was showing off, even though his hand still shot up more than anybody elseââ¬â¢s in sixth grade(2).â⬠This shows that the character posses the trait of shy because heknew that if he liftd his hand all the time then people would call him the nerd s he tried to not be so involved in the class so that no one knew who he is. In addition the trait of self conscious is evidence when ââ¬Å"oh i get your one of those guys who doesnââ¬â¢t think kickers are real players(32). ââ¬Å"This shows that the character posses the trait of self conscious because scott began to go into a shell and try to protect himself because he knew that chris was going to tell everyone about how he could kick the football.these triats, in part determine how the character will resolve his conflict. Internal conflict of scott wanting to get better at footballand chris wanting to get better at math and language arts so they agree to a deal to help each other outis resolved when scott takes te following action by tutoring chris at his house and then go in the backyard and chris would help scott become a better football player so he coulld kick a field goal in the game. The external conflict of scott wanting to get on the field and play is resolved when chris takes the following action to tell Mr.Dolan to put scott in because he knew that he could win the game for them. The conflict is resolved because he gets to kick the winning field goal for his teammates. The authorââ¬â¢s ability to craft a protagonistââ¬â¢s development through conflict is an important aspect in a readers understaning of the main character. A reader wishes to know how thier character will handle adverse situations, and how they will be affected by their reaction to the situation. This is a quality that engages a reader and forwards the plot development. when a reader assasses the manner in which a character resolves his conflict through actions, thoughts, or words theme is evident As i have commented on my reading of Two Minute Drill by Mike Lupica. i have discussed the theme of never giving up and how this theme is understood through the analysis of scott handling oof his internal conflict and finally gettinhis opportunity to show everyone wrong and the external conflict on how scott got to kick the winning field goal and won the championship titl for his team thus learning the lesson of you dont want to be the person that is weak and gives up. As long as you keep on practicing something good will happen in return. my analysis of these aspects of my independent reading novel allows me to infer the theme of never giving up. Thank you for your time and consideration of my oral commentary.
How far does Macbeth deserve the title ââ¬ÅButcherââ¬Â? Essay
When deciding whether or not Macbeth is deserving of the title ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠it is a hard decision. There were many contributions by other characters which influenced Macbethââ¬â¢s actions: such as Duncan crowning Malcolm as his successor and giving the title Thane of Cawdor to Macbeth making in which the last one was a traitor: Banquo who kept his suspicions to himself; and Macbeth and Donalbain who fled. Lady Macbeth was the one who encouraged Macbeth to kill Duncan, giving him the confidence and courage to do the deed. The witchââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ gave Macbeth the idea in the first place that he was to become king with their prophesies. The order in which I will analyse the characters which contributed to Macbethââ¬â¢s actions, are the least influential characters to the most influential characters. I must also take into consideration the time period in which Macbeth lived in to make my decision whether Macbeth deserves the title ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠. During the time period in which Shakespeare set Macbeth, society in the 11th Century was very different from what it is today. The society in which Macbeth had lived in was very brutal, revolving around violence, as shown by Shakespeare in his play as executions would be a form torture. Little boys in that time period wanted to be seen as great warriors such as Macbeth, but in order to be one you would have to kill many men in battle. In the time period Macbeth lived in the more men you killed the more honored you became and Shakespeare shows the audience this by making Macbeth being seen as a great warrior during his time due to all the men heââ¬â¢d ââ¬Å"slainâ⬠in the battlefield. When Shakespeare wrote the play he had to please James I, who was king at the time as he was his royal play right. Throughout his play he had to convey messages to the audience that James I would approve of. Such a message occurs during the beginning of the play, as the ââ¬Å"disloyal traitorâ⬠Macdonald the Thane of Cawdor is killed and the title is then given to Macbeth. The divine right of Kings was very important during Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time period. Society in the 16th Century believed that the whole universe had an order in was decided by God. The King, was believed to be chosen by God, and so any action against the King would be an action against God. Anything unnatural was against this divine order, such as evil, in which society heavily believed in at the time. Shakespeare relates his play to what was happening at the time, as there were many threats to the monarchy such as foreign invaders. At the beginning of the play there is an invasion from the ââ¬Å"Norweyan lordâ⬠against Scotland. Not only were there plots by foreign invaders but also insider within the country, such an example is looking back at history during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. During Queen Elizabeths reign, her half sister Mary Queen of Scots plotted to get rid of her. This is seen in the play as Macbeth plots against King Duncan. It was believed that if any harm was brought to the king it would anger God: ââ¬Å"Thou seest the heavens, as troubled with manââ¬â¢s act, threatens his bloody stageâ⬠and the portrayer would be punished by god himself. In the play everything is brought back into place, as normal order is back in place as the thrown goes to the rightful heir Malcolm. It was a message to the audience at the time not to plot against the king as the consequences would fall upon you. The society in which Macbeth lived in also believed in God. They believed that if there was good there had to be evil known as Satan who rebelled directly against God and was responsible through witchââ¬â¢s and evil spirits for all attacks on the divine order. Through history during the time society was increasingly preoccupied with witchcraft. Laws came into order so that anyone who was suspected of witchcraft could be executed. At that time Shakespeare wrote the play the people were of a very superstitious culture as James I published a book on ââ¬Å"Demonologyâ⬠in 1597. Shakespeare relates his play to society at the time as he incorporates three witchââ¬â¢s that are ââ¬Å"So withered, and so wild in their attire,â⬠as they were sources of the supernatural. Throughout the play of ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ Shakespeare relates his play to what was going on at the time. By using this play as a source of evidence and my own knowledge I am able to conclude that they lived in a very harsh and brutal society where innocent people werenââ¬â¢t put on trial but hanged by accusations. In the time period we live in today, Macbethââ¬â¢s action would make him a butcher, yet in the context of the time period Macbeth was living in, I think he would be more acceptable in the community due to the harsh realities of life they lived in. I must also take into consideration the actions of the other characters, which influence Macbeth to become a ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠even though they might have unwillingly contributed towards Macbethââ¬â¢s actions. Such a character is Duncan who had given Macbeth the title ââ¬Å"The Thane of Cawdorâ⬠after the previous one was a ââ¬Å"disloyal traitorâ⬠. The title ultimately makes Macbeth the most powerful thane. To a certain extent, Duncan is to blame due to naming the heir to the throne as Malcolm, even after all the loyalty and bravery Macbeth expressed towards the king. What furthered Mabethââ¬â¢s slaughterous actions is fact that Malcolm, Donalbain and Macduff ââ¬Å"fledâ⬠from the ââ¬Å"tyrants ruleâ⬠as they betrayed Macbeth by building an army to fight against him. The character that could have stopped Macbeth from the start was Banquo, as heââ¬â¢s suspicious that Macbeth ââ¬Å"playââ¬â¢dst mosy foully forââ¬â¢tâ⬠yet he thinks abou t the witchââ¬â¢s prophesies and what itââ¬â¢d hold for his future, in which he would be the ââ¬Å"root and father of many kingsâ⬠so he keeps his suspicions to himself. Lady Macbeth had a strong influence over Macbeth in his decision to kill the king. Macbeth contemplates over whether or not to kill the king yet his final decision is that heââ¬â¢ll ââ¬Å"proceed no further in this businessâ⬠unlike Lady Macbeth who decides to kill the king: ââ¬Å"The raven himself is hoarse that croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlementsâ⬠after reading the letter written from her husband. Yet Lady Macbeth believes Macbeth is too kind to kill the king as he is ââ¬Å"too full oââ¬â¢thââ¬â¢ milk of human kindnessâ⬠in order to fulfill his ambition in becoming king. She is determined for her husband to become the future king of Scotland as when the couple meet, Lady Macbeth speaks her mind and persuades her husband into doing what she thinks will benefit them the most. Lady Macbeth encourages him with comments such as ââ¬Å"so much more the manâ⬠if he becomes the king. Lady Macbeth manipulates her husband as she convinces him to do the deed to prove his love for her, as she says sheââ¬â¢d be willing to do anything for Macbeth by saying: ââ¬Å"I wouldâ⬠¦have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums, and dashed the brains out.â⬠At first Macbeth doesnââ¬â¢t want to kill the king as heââ¬â¢s been ââ¬Å"honouredâ⬠lately by the King with the title Thane of Cawdor but Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s skill works as Macbeth is ââ¬Å"settledâ⬠to do the ââ¬Å"terrible featâ⬠which ultimately is to kill the king. It is Lady Macbeth, who plans and organizes the murder, as she is impatient and wants the ââ¬Å"future in the instantâ⬠. Without Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s meticulous planning Macbeth may have never been able to go and kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth herself is the one that that calls upon supernatural spirits (ââ¬Å"Come you spiritsâ⬠) in order to become like a man, and fulfill the dreadful deed, which would take place. Yet Lady Macbeth contradicts herself as she canââ¬â¢t kill the king herself as Duncan resembles the face of her ââ¬Å"fatherâ⬠. What furthers Macbethââ¬â¢s murderous thoughts is the fact that when Macbeth didnââ¬â¢t want to kill Duncan she called him a ââ¬Å"cowardâ⬠and so Macbeth now wants to impress his wife when she finds out his great plans which leads to more killing. The second biggest thing that Lady Macbeth does which contributes to Macbeth becoming a butcher is the fact she is very deceitful. When the King arrives she plays the role of a humble hostess welcoming Duncan with many compliments, and offering ââ¬Å"All their serviceâ⬠to him. It leads Duncan to believe nothing is wrong as heââ¬â¢s not suspicious of what a dark realm he is entering. Lady Macbeth is the one who makes sure the procedure of the plan is precise as she goes over it with Macbeth. She knows Macbeth must not show his guilt and so tells him ââ¬Å"look like thââ¬â¢ innocent flower, but be serpent underââ¬â¢tâ⬠. Once Macbeth has killed the King he feels ââ¬Å"sorryâ⬠and feels guilty about what heââ¬â¢d done, which is a contrast to how Lady Macbeth is feeling, as she tells Macbeth off for such a ââ¬Å"foolish thoughtâ⬠. Lady Macbeth mocks her husband for being such a coward and to get over it, as heââ¬â¢s weak, feeble and overcome by the grief that shadows him. After the murder of King Duncan has taken place, Lady Macbeth is the one that takes charge and is in control as she knows that they must cover up their crime and blame it on others. Such an instance is when Lady Macbeth goes to sort things out as she says: ââ¬Å"Give me the daggersâ⬠as she then goes off to ââ¬Å"â⬠¦smear the sleeply grooms with bloodâ⬠. Once everything is in place Lady Macbeth once again orders Macbeth to retire back to their chamber in order to look innocent as ââ¬Å"a little water clears us of this deedâ⬠which is ironic as she then does this as she goes crazy. A minor crime which Lady Macbeth committed, which may have contributed to Macbeth becoming a butcher is before Macbeth kills the king is when Lady Macbeth prepares to get the Kingââ¬â¢s guards drunk. Lady Macbeth sneakily served excessive amounts of alcohol to the kings guard ââ¬Å"which hath made them drunkâ⬠. It served to put the Kingââ¬â¢s guards to sleep as they no longer had a watchful eye in order to protect Duncan from the dreadful deed that would have to take place in front of them without them knowing. Not only that but also when the lords find Duncan no longer lives and they announce the dreadful news, Lady Macbeth plays the role of a good actress as she pretends she doesnââ¬â¢t know a thing: ââ¬Å"Woe, alas! What, in our house?â⬠When the lords question Macbeth about the murder of king Duncan, Lady Macbeth suddenly faints. Whether this faint was on purpose or not, it diverts all the attention that was on Macbeth onto Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s plan worked well, as there is no suspicion that has fallen upon them, for the death of King Duncan has fallen upon others, such as the guards. The three ââ¬Å"hagsâ⬠are a representation of trouble and evil, being ââ¬Å"witheredâ⬠and ââ¬Å"wildâ⬠in their attire. They influenced Macbeth in the process of becoming a butcher with their prophecies. Before Macbeth even knows anything about the witchââ¬â¢s, they plan ââ¬Å"to meet with Macbethâ⬠to try tempt him with their riddles and use him as a tool towards the destruction of the natural world order. They knew Macbethââ¬â¢s weakness, unlike Banquo who is good and could resist the witchââ¬â¢s prophecies. They are malicious and crude in their nature and seek to cause chaos, mischief and misery in the world because they see evil as good, and good as evil ââ¬Å"Fair is foul, and foul is fairâ⬠. Whenever the witchââ¬â¢s are present they bring along their omens of evil such as thunder, lightning and rain. Just before the witchââ¬â¢s are about to meet Macbeth a witch chants â⬠A drum, a drum! Macbeth doth comeâ⬠. This is very portentous and a warning that bad things are to come. The witchââ¬â¢s tell Macbeth about his future with their prophecies. Once they have spoken their riddles Macbeth is desperate to know more about his future as he becomes intrigued by what he has been told: ââ¬Å"Stay you imperfect speaker, tell me more.â⬠Macbeth doesnââ¬â¢t think what he is told by the witchââ¬â¢s is true but wants to believe that it is. The first prophecies the witchââ¬â¢s predicted which Macbeth did not know of yet is that he would become the Thane of Cawdor. Ironically, after the witchââ¬â¢s had told him this he was then given the title that the witchââ¬â¢s had foreseen. The second prophecies the witchââ¬â¢s tell Macbeth may have greatly influenced Macbeth in his future actions in becoming a butcher. The second prophecy claims that Macbeth would become King. As ââ¬Å"two truths are toldâ⬠with what the witchââ¬â¢s told him being Thane of Glamis and now Thane of Cawdor, it made Macbeth believe that he ââ¬Å"shalt be king hereafter!â⬠The witchââ¬â¢s have framed Macbeth into a state of mind that this is a ââ¬Å"happy prologueâ⬠and that his power can only grow from Thane of Cawdor. The prophecy gets Macbeth to think of a ââ¬Å"horrid image doth unfix my hairâ⬠that he may have to take action of his own, in order to secure his own future in becoming king. Then on a second thought Macbeth thinks that if the prophecy is true it will happen without him having to interfere as he thinks: ââ¬Å"chance may crown me without my stirâ⬠. The influence of the witchââ¬â¢s prophecies has changed Macbeth in his line of thought, as all he wants to do now is contemplate and discuss with Banquo the witchââ¬â¢s prophecies. It triggers Macbeth to get Lady Macbeth involved as heââ¬â¢s fascinated by what he thinks is good fortune, which ultimately leads him working for the evil causing pain and havoc which is exactly as the witchââ¬â¢s wanted. Macbeth was a puppet used by the witchââ¬â¢s, which he naively was unable to see. Since seeing the witchââ¬â¢s, Macbeth changes from a ââ¬Å"noble manâ⬠to a ââ¬Å"tyrantâ⬠due to trying to accomplish the prophecy that he wants so very much. After Macbeth killed Duncan there is a reversal of the normal order as a ââ¬Å"falconâ⬠was ââ¬Å"hawked at, and killedâ⬠by a ââ¬Å"mousing owlâ⬠. The events that occurred are very ominous as it is a dark day. Everything has been affected by Macbethââ¬â¢s actions, therefore it has turned the world â â¬Å"wild in natureâ⬠as it has been disrupted. God shows his anger as the one he chose as the ruler of Scotland is now dead. This is exactly the way the witchââ¬â¢s wanted it to be. A minor crime by which the witchââ¬â¢s influence Macbeth into becoming a butcher is when they decide to trick Macbeth by using apparitions. Hecate herself blames the witchââ¬â¢s for the starting of chaos in Scotland: ââ¬Å"To trade and traffic with Macbeth, in riddles and affairs of deathâ⬠. This proves Macbeth canââ¬â¢t be fully held responsible. They cast a spell where there is a great influence of evil supernatural powers, changing the way Macbeth thinks and sees things. The witchââ¬â¢s trick Macbeth as they deliberately allow him to think that heââ¬â¢s learning the truth from a superior power when itââ¬â¢s all a faà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ade. Part of Hecateââ¬â¢s plan is that the sprites will confuse Macbeth so much heââ¬â¢ll make mistakes: ââ¬Å"strength of their illusion, shall draw him on to his confusion.â⬠The witchââ¬â¢s suggest who he should be careful of, such a case being Macduff ââ¬Å"Beware the Thane of Fifeâ⬠suggesting to Macbeth that he should eliminate anyone that may cause him any harm. Part of the witchââ¬â¢s trick is to make Macbeth feel invincible by using the apparitions that tell Macbeth ââ¬Å"none of woman born shall harm Macbethâ⬠and that he would be safe for his entire life as ââ¬Å"Macbeth shall never vanquished beâ⬠. The consequences of Macbeth meeting with the witchââ¬â¢s make him become unaware of the trick that being played on him as he is happy and re-assured with the news, becoming over beamingly confident with his reign. The witchââ¬â¢s have corrupted Macbeth by using spells for him to do bad, as he is now greedy wanting more, such as passing the crown down to his descendants rather than Banquoââ¬â¢s. The witchââ¬â¢s purposely infuriate Macbeth to make him behave rationally as they taunt him. Hecate planned to make Macbeth more of a butcher than he really is ââ¬Å"he shallâ⬠¦scorn deathâ⬠. The witchââ¬â¢s molded Macbeth into a butcher by using his weaknesses. Concerning how far Macbeth deserves the title ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠much of time Macbethââ¬â¢s actions were influenced by a certain individuals such as Lady Macbeth and the three witchââ¬â¢s. Such a case is when Macbeth killed King Duncan. To a certain extent, those certain individuals cannot be blamed and Macbeth must be held responsible. Macbeth didnââ¬â¢t have to do anything he didnââ¬â¢t want to, such as killing Duncan. When the witchââ¬â¢s told Macbeth of the second prophecy they never mentioned the fact that he should actually go and kill King Duncan. Yet like Lady Macbeth he became impatient to know about the future. Lady Macbeth isnââ¬â¢t the only one that can be labeled deceitful as Macbeth told Duncan his only role is to be loyal towards him and ââ¬Å"towards your love and honourâ⬠. Macbeth had the ââ¬Å"absolute trustâ⬠and respect of the king, as he had fought brutally in the war like a warrior killing many of Duncanââ¬â¢s enemies. Due to his bravery was given the title Thane of Cawdor officially being the most powerful Thane, yet it wasnââ¬â¢t enough for Macbeth as he still wanted more power which shows his greed. When the witchââ¬â¢s first prophecy comes true, all Macbeth wants to hear is Banquo to confirm the second prophecy and say ââ¬Å"You shall be kingâ⬠. This is due to the fact that Macbeth is very keen on the subject, yet Banquo warns him about the ââ¬Å"instruments of darknessâ⬠yet out of excitement and pride he take no notice. Once Duncan names his successor as Malcolm Macbeth starts his murderous thoughts who unlike Banquo accepts it and is happy for Malcolm. While to Macbeth Malcolm is seen as an obstacle, which needs to be got rid of. If Macbeth had never written the letter to his wife about the witchââ¬â¢s prophecies, she would have never encouraged him to kill the king. Even though Lady Macbeth seems to be the mastermind behind all the planning, Macbeth never dismisses the idea of killing Duncan. Macbeth at the end of the discussion with Lady Macbeth he makes up his own mind ââ¬Å"I am settled.â⬠When it comes to killing Duncan, Macbeth is only worried about the consequences of ââ¬Å"If we should failâ⬠and not the moral. The visions of the dagger that Macbeth has were created by his thoughts. When Macbeth does kill the king and he couldnââ¬â¢t say ââ¬Å"amenâ⬠it shows that Macbeth is worried, as he has now gone against god and will be punished for his actions. Macbeth in contrast is very different once the lords arrive as heââ¬â¢s calm and collected unlike the nervous wreck he was before. Macbeth is now able to control himself and lie well, as he acts innocent to his actions ââ¬Å"loyal and neutralâ⬠as he defends himself against accusations. I believe that when Macbeth decides to kill his best friend Banquo, he in modern day society would be seen a ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠. One bad deed of Macbethââ¬â¢s lead to another ââ¬Å"Things bad begun make strong themselves by illâ⬠, as Banquo was suspicious of Macbeth that he ââ¬Å"playââ¬â¢dst most foully forââ¬â¢tâ⬠. Even though Macbeth has got the thrown he is still not content with his present situation as he doesnââ¬â¢t feel safe: ââ¬Å"To be thus is nothing, But to be safely thus.â⬠Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth to accept the past ââ¬Å"whatââ¬â¢s done is doneâ⬠yet Macbeth is unable too. Macbeth is devious as he tries to find out Banquoââ¬â¢s and Fleanceââ¬â¢s movements in light conversation ââ¬Å"Ride you this afternoon?â⬠so he may ambush him. Even though heââ¬â¢s plotting Banquoââ¬â¢s murder Macbeth is two faced as he pretends to be nice to him. Macbeth and Banquo were always seen as equals, yet Banquo is loyal to Macbeth as he is king unlike Macbeth. Instead of Lady Macbeth arranging things now, Macbeth is the one planning. Macbeth is now misleading his wife as she knows nothing. In order for Macbeth to get the murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance he lies to them by telling them it was Banquo ââ¬Å"which held you so under fortuneâ⬠. Macbeth is glad about Banquoââ¬â¢s violent death. Macbeth is starting to talk like the witchââ¬â¢s as he uses inverted meanings such as ââ¬Å"Banquoââ¬â¢s safe?â⬠after being killed. By now Macbeth is able to hide anything and is a good liar as he pretends to miss Banquo and blames him for not attending, when Macbeth is the reason he isnââ¬â¢t there. Macbeth thinks that heââ¬â¢s done so many bad things that itââ¬â¢s to late to stop and isnââ¬â¢t giving up as ââ¬Å"We are yet but young in deed.â⬠Macbeth by this point has involved himself with evil ââ¬Å"I conjure youâ⬠and is now evil himself and is doomed with the title ââ¬Å"butcherâ⬠. Macbeth has resorted to killing innocent women and children ââ¬Å"Each new mourn, new widows howl, new orphans cry, new sorrows strike heaven on the faceâ⬠. Macbeth now resides to act without delay and will kill without hesitating: ââ¬Å"From this moment firstlings of my heart shall be firstlings of my hand.â⬠When Macbeth decides to attempt and kill Macduff, he targets his family who havenââ¬â¢t done anything wrong and are undeserving of their fate. Macbethââ¬â¢s evil and cruelty shows through the suffering throughout the country of Scotland. Lady Macbeth feels guilty as she feels she started Macbeth on his evil path to destruction but didnââ¬â¢t know about any of her husbandââ¬â¢s actions after the murder of Duncan. Macbeth has now become a ââ¬Å"tyrantâ⬠and his ââ¬Å"murders sticking on his handsâ⬠. Macbeth is determined to fight to the end till his ââ¬Å"bonesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"flesh be hackedâ⬠. As he now knows that he is a butcher and no longer has a conscious, as when he finds out he was lied to by the witchââ¬â¢s, heââ¬â¢d rather ââ¬Å"die with the harness on our backâ⬠. Macbeth wants to inflict as much pain on others before he dies, in which he fails to do so.
